Overview

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, lawyers held about
735,000 jobs in 2004. Approximately 1 out of 4 lawyers practiced in
the public sector. The greatest number of lawyers working in
government were reported to be employed at the local level. At the
Federal level, lawyers are reported to be primarily concentrated in the
Departments of Justice, Treasury, and Defense.
