What next? At this stage of your career, you may be wondering where the path will take you. There is often much uncertainty at this stage of one's legal career when one would have hoped for the opposite after all that hard work. You may not be able to control whether or not you are offered partner or member status or a senior position or if one is even available for you, but you can and should try and keep your options open. Developing a career plan at this stage is not too late. Frankly, it may be the very best time to sit back and evaluate what you have accomplished so far and your options for the future. At this stage of your life, you may also consider whether a legal career is the path for you going forward. There are enough miserable lawyers out there who have not stopped and re-evaluated their life and career options. This is as good a time as any. You have experience at this point and are more mobile than you probably realize. |
